Clutter Free Kitchen Counters

Friday, February 14, 2014

I've been thinking about clutter free kitchen counters lately, I don't know why... actually I do know why and here are the reasons why I think about them:

1.  When you come into our home from the garage, you go through the laundry room and straight in to the kitchen. So basically, it's one of the first things you see.

2. I love to cook and having everything out is just handier then stored away. Which brings me to #3.

3. Even though I feel like my kitchen is a good size, there just never seems to be enough storage space.
So I keep things on the counter.

4. My mind is a little clearer when things are organized and look neat and tidy.
There's only so much this brain can take!!

5. And this is probably the biggest reason of all. I love trying new decorating trends and sometimes it's just a little too much!

6. And I forgot about #6... I'm an empty-nester so I have WAY too much time on my hands!

-Here is a before shot of my kitchen, the way I use it everyday-

And after...
I love it but and that's a big BUT, can it stay that way? You know when you get to banging pots and pulling stuff out that somehow things just end up staying there. We'll see!

The bottles I picked up at Homegoods and the little mercury cup with hydrangeas is a candle holder.

This cake plate that holds all my oils, salt and wooden pedestal, will always be on my counter because it belonged to my Grandma and I treasure it. You can read about her here. The cake dome is from Ballard Designs.

The other side of the kitchen is not bad, because it's not really my work area. And I keep that side for my seasonal decorations.

I try to keep my sink clean of any dishes and I always try and scrub my sink after doing the dishes in the evening. So I wake up to a shiny sink! I learned that lesson a long time ago from The Fly Lady. Wow! Does she have great tips on running an organized home!

When I look on Houzz or Pinterest I see a combination of both cluttered heavily accessorized counter spaces and some that look like nobody even lives in the house!

I guess I like a happy medium. Not too sparse, because I still want it warm and inviting. But, I don't want it to look like I'm a class one hoarder either.

So what's your view on storing your things on your counter top or going clutter free?
I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Take Care!
