Decisions, Decisions!

Good morning!

The outdoor remodel is coming along and although its a total mess, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Here's where we are so far...

Its looking great! A real entry where the front door will be protected from the elements and most importantly it gives the house some WOW factor!!

Now my big decision that I have.

Front door color!

I know! I know! You're saying to yourself, "Thats your big decision?"

Hey I didn't say my life was complicated or glamorous, but its all I got right now!

But I would state that the color of your front door plays a very important part in your exteriors appeal.

And in my honest, non-professional, non-interior stylist, just an average slightly obsessed home decorators opinion...

A house is only as good as its front door!

Now take that to the bank!

Well,  I wish I could take it to the bank! Because then I wouldn't be sweating bullets over this remodel! But on to the subject at hand.

Heres whats swirling around in my little brain right now!

A black front door is elegant and dramatic! I think it would work well with the stone work and the house color. Although the house color might be changed to a light gray. Another decision.

A black door works well with any and all colors. Its extremely versatile.  The only negative that I can think of is it might make the area feel too dark. Which is one thing that I'm fighting against. I love the way the big ole porch opens the door area up! So the last thing I want to do is make it feel dark! Hmm...decisions!

This picture just makes me happy!

Its shown with stacked stone similar to what ours will look like too!

In doing some research I found out that a red front door in early America was a sign of welcome to the passing horse and buggy traveler. Interesting. Although I don't want random strangers stopping by to say hi! I kidd. Although it is something to think about! :)

One thing that I DON'T love about my current yellow door is when the holidays roll around its very difficult to decorate with. Now a red door on the other hand! Holy moly would that scream, CHRISTMAS HOUSE!!

And since we're talking about my yellow door..

I do love this color. Its called Beeswax by Sherwin Williams. It reminds me of buh-ta (butter) and is so happy looking!

And I could just stick with this, but I would love to do something different.

Such a classic! Clean, fresh and crisp! Movie house is what a white front door represents to me! Negatives-It will show dirt and here in Florida with the humidity it might mildew.

But with the white columns, and new white carriage style garage door it would tie in nicely giving the exterior a seamless look.

So there you have it my decisions for the week!

I would love for you to weigh in, because I value your opinion! So take a moment and leave me a comment below!

Have a beautiful day!

A New Beginning...

Tuesday, August 2, 2016

Hi everyone!

I feel like its been forever since I've blogged! But life seems to get in the way sometimes and well sometimes I just don't feel creative enough to write. :( But I do miss it! I miss the interaction with you guys and just the feeling of putting my thoughts down into words!

But today I feel like I have something fun and exciting to share! Today we started a new project, and I can't wait to document it and then eventually show the finished project!

We've started an exterior remodel on our house! And we are so excited! Why are we so excited you ask? In the past we've done exterior projects like paint and pavers and landscaping. But this project will totally change the footprint of our home!

Let me show you what I'm talking about…

These pictures show our house as of yesterday! Its a typical ranch style home built in the late 60's. It has stucco brick on the bottom half that I hate! We painted it to match the rest of the house in the hopes it would go away! It didn't!!

Now let me add, that we did add the porch and columns years ago. When we bought our home the flower bed in front of the porch went all the way to the window. It just had a tiny concrete slab in front of the door. So we poured a porch and my husband built the columns.

I wish so much I had pictures of the house when we bought it,  because it has gone through some radical changes to say the least!

Lesson to those just starting out with their first homes…take pictures!

Here's an outline of what will be happening.

*Stucco brick will be removed and replaced with stacked stone…Bye Bye!
                                *New columns

*Old pavers will be removed from porch and replaced

                                *Gabled entry for entrance

                                *Carriage style garage door

                                *New shutters

                                *Matching stacked stone mailbox

This gives you an idea of the gabled entry that our contractor is building. I think it will give the front door a real entrance, and balance the house!

Although ours won't be this big, I don't think! This was my inspiration picture! I just love this picture!

The stone that we're using is Country Ledgestone Bucks Co. by Boral.

The home above is another inspiration pic that I used. It has the same stacked stone and the house color is very similar to ours. I just love when we're doing a project. I'm a visual person and it really helps to see a picture.

I'm really excited about this carriage style door. If you remember I tried to give our old door the same look a couple of years ago. You can see that post here.

So there you have it!

I can't wait to show you all progress pics!

Have a great day!
