Fall In The Living Room

Sunday, September 28, 2014

So I promised I would show you the living room when it was finally Fall-ified. So ta-da! It's done!

When it comes to Fall I really prefer simple. I've noticed that some like to drag out everything they own that's Fall-ish, and pile it up! But that's not the look for me. A few simple touches here and there and that works…for me. I start to feel like the walls are closing in on me, if I have too much stuff out!  But to each his own, ya know!

So on to the room!

I have to admit I have some ladder love going on right now. I love them! They're so versatile! For the living room use them to hang blankets, for the kitchen hang pots, herbs, or even utensils, in the bedroom you can hang your scarves or even your necklaces from them, and the bathroom they make an excellent place to hang extra towels when you're short on space! I picked mine up from Amazon for around $50.

The Burberry-ish throw I have here is actually a wrap that I wear in the Fall. Go Figure! And that's the Rens Sheepskin-Ikea  area rug that I have thrown over the ladder. No need to go out and buy something new. I used what I had!

I also am in love with my new burlap Harvest pillow that I bought from a store here in Tampa.

Velvet pumpkins are so in right now. I'm thinking I could make these…hmm maybe!! This color is called Lagoon and I thought it was an unexpected color for a pumpkin.

It's not Fall without a little deer action!

I also switched out my white/navy moroccan trellis rug for this beige/white chevron sisal rug. It just seems to give the room more texture. I added a cozy throw, and more rich vibrant pillows to the sofa.

I hope you enjoyed my Fall in the living room! I'd love to hear how you're decorating for Fall!

Turning Summer Into Fall In One Day

Tuesday, September 23, 2014

How's everyone's week going so far? I hope good! I've been slowly changing out the house from Summer to Fall.
I think one of the most important things when you're changing your rooms from season to season, is when you're adding your seasonal decor change out or move out the other decor as well.

Let me show you what I mean.

Here's my dining room before during the Summer months.

It has a lighter more airy feel to it. With coastal prints, white hydrangeas, and green grass on the large shelf to the right. But I didn't like the look of shell prints with pumpkins. So all of those things went away until Spring.
Your message will get lost if you don't put some things away when placing your seasonal decor out.

For Fall I wanted a warmer, more cozy feel to the room. So I replaced the coastal prints on either side of the french doors, and added some landscape prints that had gold, browns, and black.
Next I was excited to add my new cow hide rug that I bought at this amazing store here in Tampa, RareHues Modern Vintage Market under my dining room table, and I love it!! It instantly gives the room a warm feeling.

In order to make the transformation go fast and smoothly, I planned out what I wanted to do before hand.
Then I went around to the stores and my own house (don't forget to shop your house!) with an idea already in mind.
That way when I decided to change out everything it only took a couple of hours to do it!

On the large shelf I added a big bundle of wheat, also from RareHues. I tried making one a few years ago, and trust me it looked nothing like this! I also took a sea grass tray that I already had, and glued a sweet little birds nest and bittersweet to it.

As we get more into October and November I'm sure I'll be adding more layers to the room. I'll have pictures of the living room side later this week to show you it's transformation from Summer to Fall!

Thanks for stopping by!

Welcome To My Fall Porch Tour

Sunday, September 21, 2014

Happy Sunday! I hope everyone is having a great weekend!
Today I'm sharing my Fall porch with you! I hope you stop and take a look around and hopefully find an idea or two for your home.

I usually go for a traditional front porch of Fall decorations. When my boys were young I would throw in the Halloween element for them. But now I just stick with Fall, which carries me right into Thanksgiving and then Christmas.

If you're wondering what the little fall sign is to the right of door, it's a little photo shop magic over my address sign. It just helps me sleep at night!

I found this adorable monogrammed ceramic pumpkin from Kirklands the other day. To my luck, they had one "M" left! So I snagged it!

Corn stalks on each of the columns really says Fall. Along with hay bales, pumpkins, and a lantern to light the way.

The wreath is from Michaels and I love the sunflowers in it.

The wheelbarrow is something I picked up new this season. I figured I could use it no matter what season it is.

Isn't this crow doormat adorable? World Market is my new favorite online store!!
It ties in with my crows above the doorway and brings back memories of the movie "The Birds!!"

I hope you enjoyed my Fall porch tour! This week I'll be showing you how my living room went from Summer to Fall in one day, so stop by to check it out!
Have a great week friends!

Fall Coffee Bar

Friday, September 19, 2014

As the days cool down (hopefully soon) I crave coffee more than ever. So today I thought I would do a little Fall-ifying of my coffee area.

I decided to continue my love of the white pumpkins into the kitchen. Which I think looks beautiful with all of the white that I have in there already.

I picked up these cute little pumpkins at Kirklands last weekend, and they were just what I was looking for.

I took my galvanized tiered tray from Pottery Barn and added some vintage flatware in mason jars and a little white pitcher that I had, and added some colorful gourds and fall foliage.

I picked up these cute little sherbet bowls from Willliams-Sonoma a few months ago. They're so dainty and cute. My husband says these are NOT for ice cream. :(

I hope you have a great weekend. And don't forget to Pin this to your Fall inspiration board!

Trendy vs What Your Home REALLY Needs (According To Joanna Gaines Of Fixer Upper)

Thursday, September 18, 2014

I admit it. I have been guilty of this on so many levels it's not even funny. Let me explain.

Have you ever been out shopping for your home and come across something that is super trendy. And without thinking, you buy it. Then you get home and walk around aimlessly with it placing it here and there, trying to find the right home for it. Then after a few months of moving it around, from room to room you look at it and think, "What was I thinking!"

So here are a few tips from my new home decor addiction Joanna Gaines from the hit HGTV show Fixer Upper

Joanna says:
"For your own home, take the time to sit and get inspired for your own space. Define what style and feel you want to create. Let the home speak to you. Research the history of the home if you can. How do you want to re-write or preserve the story of the home?"

This is great advice! Don't rush just because something is popular and trending right now. Otherwise you'll be stuck with things that don't fit your home. Although my family is always happy when I realize that I don't like something. Because most of the time it's given to them.

She also offers these 3 tips that are useful when trying to find what your home really needs:

* Get to a place of contentment first before you move forward, or you'll never be happy with your home. Agree to embrace where you live, not matter what it looks like or how many projects you've got to tackle.
* Embrace your season life. Let your home be a palace where you thrive. For example, if you are an empty nester, let the atmosphere of your home allow you to move emotionally forward so you don't feel stuck in the past. Or if you are a mother with young children, let your home be a place where your children thrive. Let them make messes. Let them be inspired.
* Clear to clutter. Get rid of unnecessary stuff and let your rooms breath. Quit holding on to so many things, when you clear the rooms it allows you to think beyond the space and this is where creativity flows. Don't let all your stuff stifle you.

So I told my husband I was putting myself on a spending diet! I'm not saying that I won't buy anything else for the house, after all you have to eat! But, I'm going to try and make better choices for my home, find what my home really needs!

If you haven't seen the hit show "Fixer Upper" with Chip and Joanna Gaines then you are really missing a great show. It's packed with great home renovations, and impeccable style! Not to mention their super cute little family. Joanna also has a blog, Magnolia with a shop so you can purchase some of the products that you see her using on the show. She also has a store, "Magnolia Market" in Waco, Texas.

So have you been guilty of buying things for your home, just to stay on trend?
I'd love to hear from you!

A Light Approach To Fall

Thursday, September 11, 2014

This year for fall I'm attempting a light approach when it comes to the colorful season. Usually you will find my home decorated with lots of color…reds, golds, different shades of oranges and greens. But since I'm trying to retain my desire to lighten up my living room. I've decided to lighten up for fall!

Using more natural hues instead of the bright colors you normally see this time of year. I still have my fall colored leaves, but accessory wise I'm keeping them in the natural tones.

I'm fascinated with white pumpkins this year. I had some of the faux orange pumpkins that I've used in years past. Some I sprayed a coppery color last year and decided that instead of going out and buying all new white pumpkins I would paint them instead.

I didn't even feel like going out and buying special paint! I just scrounged around our cans of paint in the garage until I found what I was looking for. Benjamin Moore's White Dove…Perfecto!!!

A quick coat or two and I had whole new look!

Hmm what next?

Southern Living Idea House-Palmetto Bluff

Wednesday, September 10, 2014

We are planning a trip to the mountains this fall, and one stop that I want to make is to South Carolina to tour the 2014 Southern Living Idea House.

Located in Bluffton, SC this coastal inspired home is designed to inspire you and your home! Sounds like a plan right? I'm all about idea houses. If you haven't ever toured one you really are missing out. They are chock full of the latest and greatest of everything! I'm talking cutting edge! And even though for most of us we will never have these things in our own homes, there is always something for everyone! Even if it's a idea for some new pillows. They are that inspiring!

I'm getting all tingly just talking about it!!

I thought I would share with you some pictures of this lighter, fresher and more livable house to show you why I want to go there so much!

A large brick porch is there to welcome you home!

Who wouldn't love an entrance like this to welcome guests?

Architect Ken Pursley and Interior Designer Suzanne Kasler (who has a line of home decor at Ballard Designs) worked beautifully together to create this spectacular home.

Love the kitchen. So open and airy with open shelving and huge windows to let in all that beautiful light. The chandelier is a statement piece in itself.

Looking down to the Living Room. This seems like a very relaxing and comfortable room with the neutral color palette.

The master bathroom reminds me of the color of Sea glass.

The master suite is again very calming with the neutral color tones.

The house is surrounded by Pine trees and nestled beside a lake with a porch that let's you take in breathtaking sunrises. Yes, please!!

Couldn't you see yourself having a family breakfast or dinner on this porch?

If we get a chance to tour this home in the fall I'll have even more detailed pictures to share with you!
Wish me luck in getting there!!
