Simple Garage Updates

How's everyone's weekend so far?
I hope so far so good! We are getting ready to go to the beach again for a week. Yay for that! So we have been getting things ready for a nice, relaxing vacay!

But before vacation we had to get a little work in...

I posted last week about some things that we are doing to get our home Fall ready. And one of the things that I've been excited to do is add some carriage style elements to our garage door.

I ordered these from Amazon. They're the Decorative Fleur De Lis Garage Door Kit

And for $17.97 (Prime membership) I'd say they are a nice little bang for your buck!

Here's our garage door before: (Sorry for these pics, it was super shady)

And here is the after:

They were really easy to install, and only took about 20 minutes.
Instant curb appeal!

They actually look better in person, because these shots as I said before were very shady.

I love projects that are quick and inexpensive but add a little WOW to your home!

Mike has been cleaning the pool porch today in order to prepare for our new porch furniture that I ordered. I'll be posting about that when I get back from the beach. I'm excited to show you what is new out there.
Here's a little action shot to show you that he really is working hard!

Tonight our little precious Granddaughter, Ava is spending the night with us! We enjoy every second with her!

Have a great weekend friends!

Chairish Challenge

Tuesday, August 19, 2014

I was contacted recently by Chairish an online marketplace for vintage furniture. They asked for me to create a style board around an accent chair and take the room from white to bright!

Well I'm always up for a good challenge. So I got to work. They sent me pictures of a collection of their beautiful vintage chairs Vintage Accent Chair Collection all very colorful and I had to choose one. On to that in a minute.

But first here's a little background on this exciting company.

Design Lovers Unite! makes it fun and easy for design lovers to buy and sell pre-loved decor to one another. Our shop exclusively features curator-approved treasures in a full-service and trustworthy environment.
Buy. Sell. Adore.
Fun right? Head on over and check them out today! Tell them The Daily Nest sent you!
On to my mood board:

Using all items from Chairish I decided that I would go a little dramatic with a flair from old Hollywood. Using a yellow, gold, and black theme. Quite a different take on how I would normally decorate!

I chose these Yellow Hollywood Regency Chairs Chairish Vintage Accent Chairs. From there I chose this sleek sectional that has a retro vibe. To give the room texture I added this reindeer hide. That's right reindeer hide!! Sorry Rudolph!

Next to give the room some bling and a throwback to old Hollywood or maybe even new (?) I chose this beautiful gold bar cart with bar accessories. To tie in the gold accents I chose this gold Hollywood Regency coffee table.

For the black accents I chose these exquisite black lacquer Georgian mirrors, the black and white regency side table with a pair of Italian handcrafted ceramic lamps, and the 1950 vintage French black chandelier is a statement piece in itself.

A few accessories such as this yellow plate and mercury glass candlesticks are just an added bonus.

If you haven't checked out Chairish you really need to!
The possibilities are endless!

5 Ways To Make Your Home Fall Ready

Saturday, August 16, 2014

How's everyone doing today? Sorry for my lack of posts. But my creative juices have just not been flowing lately. I'm sorry. I'm still struggling with my thyroid levels and with that comes
extreme fatigue and a complete brain fog! It really stinks! But hopefully things will be back to normal in a couple more weeks.

So my last post was about the upcoming Fall season. And as I was walking around our front yard I was thinking about what I wanted to do to make my home Fall ready. And not only that but holiday ready, which will be right around the corner!

Update Your Garage door
I just purchased this decorative Fleur-De-Lis Garage door kit to give my garage door a carriage door look.

I love the look of a carriage style garage door. As in this picture.

But our garage door is not that old and we really don't want to spend the money replacing a perfectly good door. So this is second best. You can purchase these from Amazon. They even have faux windows that you can purchase as well. I'll have some before and after pictures once we get them installed.

Pressure Wash Your Exterior
This is a must in the Fall. Especially after our rainy season. Everything around here becomes mildewed because we have a lot of trees it stays wet and doesn't have a chance to dry out.
Make sure you also pressure wash your driveway, sidewalks, walkways and porches.

Give Your Front Door Some Love
Your front door is the first thing that someone sees when they come to your home. Give your door a fresh coat of paint. Purchase some pretty fall flowers to place on either side of your door way. Add a new welcome mat, and make sure your light is free of dead bugs. Also check all your exterior lights and replace any burned out bulbs.

Plant Fall Flowers In And Around Your Front Walkway
This is a great way to welcome Fall! It's so pretty to have a welcoming color display of flowers that will last all season long.

Replace Mulch In Flowerbeds
With all the rain the mulch in our flowerbeds can get washed out. It also becomes faded with the Florida heat. Purchase a few bags of fresh mulch and spread it around and you'll have fresh looking flowerbeds.

This a great tutorial by Carmen Johnston of Southern Living Plants just click on the source links to take you to the step by step tutorial to show you how to create this look.

Make sure you pin this to your Fall inspiration board!

Have a great weekend!

Fall Color Trends

The heat! On my the heat!

I'm So Ready For Fall!

Here in Florida the temp is soaring and not only that we have the humidity which is out of control! You walk outside and you just feel…well gross!

Even though cooler temps are a ways a way for us in Florida. I still start to decorate and think about fall "Inside my home" around the end of September.

As I was looking around the internet I started looking at fall color trends and thought I'd share with you some that caught my eye.

First off is Pantone's picks for Fall 2014.

Some I'm thinking, "Not so much." But I do have a few favs that I love for fall. Such as Cypress, Aurora Red, Aluminum, Misted Yellow and Sangria.

This room incorporates a lot of the Pantone colors. Shades of Cypress, Aurora Red, Aluminum give the room a warm and cozy feeling.

Doesn't this room make you want to curl up on the sofa in front of the fireplace? Oh wait, I need to turn my thermostat down in order to imagine that!

Love this crystal vase with fall foliage, what a statement! You can also see some Pantone's colors in the leaves as well. Aurora Red, Cypress. So simple yet so pretty!

Adding fall colors to your home is easy and inexpensive. First use nature. Take a walk through your yard and use clippings of fall foliage for instant WOW!

Accent decor such as pillows, throws, and rugs are also an easy way to add warmth and fall color.

These velvet pillows from Pottery Barn are in a word yummy! Love the beautiful jewel tone colors!
They come in a variety of colors. Even their names are beautiful, Honey Gold, Ember, Atlantis Blue, Ebony.

So what's your favorite fall color for your home? Too soon?

I can dream can't I?

Letting go of the past

Wednesday, August 6, 2014

Do you cling to your possessions for way too long?

Are you what people would call a hoarder or pack rat?

I could be called a lot of things, but one thing I'm positive no one would call me is a pack rat. To me there is nothing worse than to have things stock piled in every corner and counter of your house. Now I know getting rid of stuff can be painful, I'm not without feelings. But you will be amazed at how freeing it is to just let go!

Having excess stuff makes me feel almost claustrophobic and out of control. I'm not a total neat-freak but I do like things to have their place and be fairly organized.

So I thought I would offer some tips on how to clean out and de-clutter without it being so overwhelming!

Trash, Donate, Recycle

Pick a specific area and concentrate on that. Don't look at the entire big picture of what you need to do. Find your area that you want to work on, and give it 1 hour. Focusing on a small area makes you feel less overwhelmed by the task and by only committing to 1 hour it makes it feel much more doable.

For Everyday Items-
  1. How often do I use this item?
  2. Will I REALLY need it in the future?
  3. What is the value of the item?
For Sentimental Items-
  1. How often do I use or enjoy this item?
  2. How much is the cost replacement?
  3. What is the value/sentiment of the item?

Procrastination is your worse enemy! I mean your house is not going to get organized by itself, right? And trust me I know that getting started is the hardest part. But believe me once you get going it's a great feeling of accomplishment!

That's my rule that I have for myself, one in one out! What do I mean by that? When I purchase a duplicate of something, something goes out in the trash or I give it away. Do you really need 5 bottles of body wash or shampoo? Also make a list when you go to the store. That way you're not over buying.

What are your thoughts on de-cluttering? I love to hear your comments and any new tips you might have!

Have a great day!!

The Power Of Trim Molding!

Monday, August 4, 2014

If you ever walk into a room and are in awe of it's beauty, chances are it has extensive trim molding. Trim molding takes a boring, basic room to a room that has character, and attitude.

I once heard that trim molding isn't something that you notice right away, but it's a feeling that it gives a room.

Our home was no different a long time ago. We had very basic molding. No wainscoting. None of the windows were trimmed out. Basic baseboards. And certainly no architectural features such as board and batten or bead board. Through the years we have slowly, but surely transformed all our rooms with trim molding in one way or another.

Here's some examples of how trim molding has transformed my home-

One of the easiest ways to upgrade a room is to beef up all the moldings in your home. Adding width, depth and height to the trim. But don't worry about closing the room in. The increased framing will add depth to the walls. And if you are worried about it closing in your room. Paint the walls and trim the same color. Only paint the trim in a semi-gloss.

Baseboards, Casings, Crown Molding and other finishing touches are like the cherry on top of a delicious sundae! And the difference that it will add to your room is undeniable and truly POWERFUL!!

Where I've Been!

Saturday, August 2, 2014

Hey everyone! It seems like a while since I've posted. I've really missed everyone and hope y'all are doing well! I've had a couple people ask where I've been and hoping that I'm ok. Thank you for asking, and I'm fine. I had a little medical issue going on, nothing major but unnerving none the less.

I have had thyroid issues for about 6 yrs. now, and 3 years ago had RAI or radio active iodine to basically make my thyroid stop functioning so it could be controlled with medication. Since they could never regulate it. I've had a pretty easy time with it, until recently. I noticed that I was more fatigued than usual, freezing cold at an otherwise normal temp. I was noticing more hair in the shower when I would wash it. All classic symptoms of hypothyroidism.

Then a couple of weeks ago I started having crazy, scary heart palpitations that landed me in the ER one night. So to make a long story short, my thyroid is way, way out of whack! It should be no higher than a 3.0 and mine was at 10.6! Which really makes you feel crappy and can cause the palpitations.

So my endocrinologist has adjusted my meds. I've seen my cardiologist and he assures me that I'm fine. Just random PVC'S. But I have to wear a 24hr. monitor this week. That will be fun! And If any of you have thyroid problems you know it takes a while for your meds to kick in. Bummer!

So I'll be back later this week! Back to what I love and that's talking with you all and discussing what I love to talk about…Decorating!

It always does my heart good!

Take care!
