Memaw's Custard Pie

Tuesday, May 6, 2014

The crust is not the prettiest, but it sure did taste pretty!

This is a quick little post to share with you my husbands favorite pie that I make for him ALL THE TIME!!

It's my Grandmother's (Memaw) pie and I have her recipe card in her handwriting that again is so special to me.
It's a super easy pie, especially since I use Pillsbury ready to use crust and it's a unbaked pie shell.
You can literally have this made and baked in 20 mins.!

Memaws Custard Pie
1 unbaked pie shell sprayed with Pam
2 1/2 cups scalded milk
4 eggs
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1tsp. Vanilla
Fresh nutmeg

Heat milk until frothy and not quite to a boil. Lightly beat eggs, sugar, salt and vanilla. SLOWLY add hot milk to egg mixture. You don't want scrambled eggs.
 Pour into unbaked pie shell.
Grate fresh nutmeg on top
Cover edges with foil
Bake at 475 for 8 mins.
Then reduce to 425 for 10 mins. Or until knife comes out clean

I hope you enjoy this as much as Mike does!!
