Finding The Perfect Gray

Wednesday, April 30, 2014

As I've mentioned before we I'm in the process of changing the whole color scheme in my living room/dining room area.

I want light, airy, bright and fresh! You can read about my plans and what I see for these rooms here.
I ordered the Buchanan chairs from PB and they will be here this weekend!
Can you say, "SUPER EXCITED!"

I FINALLY got rid of those hideous burgundy/gold chairs that were as I expressed to my husband, "Hurting my eyes!"

I've made small changes that you can read about here, but the biggest change is going to be painting the walls.

The color that I want and really the only color I've imagined is GRAY. Not gray like prison walls. But a pale, soft, PERFECT gray color. Also, I do not want a gray that has any blue undertones to it.

If you remember I painted my bedroom walls a beautiful color, Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter that you can read about here

So on to the gray candidates!

First choice:
Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter (HC-172)

I love the warm undertones in Revere Pewter. It's a classic shade, with a transitional feel. And since I already have it in my master bedroom/bathroom it will flow nicely.

Second choice:
Benjamin Moore's Gray Owl (0C-52)

This color is part of Candice Olsen designer picks collection. It's described as a very approachable subtle gray color.

Third choice:
Sherwin Williams Amazing Gray (SW-7044)
Described as a medium gray with a hint of green. Not too cool, not too warm.

Fourth choice:
Behr's Sandstone Cliff (750C-3)
Sandstone Cliff is the perfect "Greige" which is a nice balance of gray and beige.

So as you can see I have my work cut out for me. Giving the fact that the painter is coming this weekend to start! Yikes!

And yes we are having it painted, by a guy who does outstanding work!

My husband is happy!!

My Visit To The 2014 Southern Living Showcase Home-Tampa

Monday, April 28, 2014

Warning: Picture overload of serious decorating ideas:
I've been hearing about the Southern Living Showcase Home on our local daytime talk show for a while now, and have been obsessing wanting to go!

Last weekend my husband Mike (who also loves to tour these houses for the architecture side of them) and I made our way down to the quiet little South Tampa neighborhood of Beach Park that is home to the 2014 Southern Living Showcase Home built by Javic Homes.

Our goal at Javic Homes is to create one-of-a-kind homes through innovative design, comfort and efficiency.  We are the only Tampa Bay member of the exclusive Southern Living Custom Builder Program.  This program carefully selects members based on their exceptional reputation; strong market presence; quality craftsmanship; and innovative design.

Javic Homes designed the 2014 Southern Living Custom Showcase Home in a traditional West Indies style. The home is inspired by colonial British West Indies style both on the exterior and interior. I have to say, It was love at first sight!

The front exterior of the home has a beautiful front porch! I can just imagine lingering there with a glass of sweet tea watching people drive by and saying to myself, "That's right I live here!"
Hey, I can dream right?
The pop of color in the shutters and garage doors painted Sherwin Williams Moody Blue (SW6221) gives the home that extra WOW factor! Along with the entry door that's stained a beautiful warm, deep wood tone that's used in accents throughout the home.
Love this planter that was placed right outside the front door.

When you enter the home the den is to the left of the foyer and is accented with a soothing blue wall color and bronze accents.
Rich Hickory wood floors are throughout the first floor.

The dining room is dramatic with it's dark, warm toned plank ceiling and striking chandelier!

This wine cork art piece was inspired by the minarets of our famous University of Tampa
All of the art in the Showcase Home are created by local Tampa area artists

The door on the top left is a wine storage area! How cool is that?

On the first floor, the family room, kitchen, and breakfast room create an open living space. All three rooms are painted Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige (SW7036)
Beautifully done built-ins

The kitchen includes two islands-one for preparation and one that guests can gather around and watch you create a beautifully prepared meal or open take out bags, whichever is your preference.

This piece of art is of a fish smoking a cigar, and it had my husband talking about it for…well he's still talking about it!
We both loved it above the range!

The Breakfast room

This is a guest room and bathroom on the first floor, that I thought at first was the Master. It's that lovely!

This vanity was gorgeous!

Now upstairs to the Master suite…Utopia!!
I heard angels sing!
An oasis of color and texture. Painted Sherwin Williams Worldly Gray (SW7043) plays off of Magnolia Inspiring Interiors palette of light linens, warm, blues, and pops of purple.

The master suites balcony

Tar-mak's Oasis Blue Marble is stunning in this master suite, and I'm pretty sure I could relax and unwind here after a long day. Notice how I keep inserting myself into this home...

The controls for the shower, would make showering a dream!

The nursery is stimulating to say the least! I love the pops of bright pinks and blues!
Bead-board and plantation shutters in Sherwin Williams Pure White (SW7005) add architectural interest to the room.
The adorable wallpaper with whimsical animals above the hot pink crib would make any baby happy!
The little pink pig art work is just precious!

The bonus room would be a great place for teenagers to hang out

Maybe work on a little art and have some snacks!

The floor used in this room is cork made from recycled cork stoppers!

Now if my husband is reading this…I WOULD fold clothes if I had this laundry room!

The best is saved for last in my opinion! This is why we live in Florida!

The rear exterior of the home is nearly 1,000 square feet of outdoor living space featuring an outdoor kitchen, an additional covered balcony on the second story, and a pool/spa!

Indoor/Outdoor Living on Tampa Bay!

I hope you enjoyed my tour of the 2014 Southern Living Showcase Home as much as I did!

Simple Dining Room Updates!

Thursday, April 24, 2014

Updating your dining room doesn't have to cost a fortune. Right? Right!

I've been wanting to update my dining room and living room for a while now. So I've been making slow but sure changes.

I also didn't want to spend a fortune doing it. Because as you might have already guessed my tastes change like the wind!

So I put a lot of thought into it. And thought what bothered me so much about this room? I still loved my dining room table, it has a beautiful base and I do love the dark wood.

But what was it that bugged me about it?
Then it dawned on me! Too Matchy-matchy, even though I like the dark wood there was too much of it, pretty boring are some of the thoughts that came to mind.

And when I look back at my blog pics I don't have a lot of shots of this room.
Here's a before look:

Here's what it looks like now after a weekend of updating
I love how light and bright it is now!
By just changing out the chairs and the curtains and adding a few new accessories, it gives the whole dining room a different look!

Curtains-Ikea Ritva

I added plates in a navy/white pattern to both sides of the mirror. I bought these years ago at an antique store and I've always loved them. The pattern is "Blue Onion"
I thought they tied in nicely with my new navy/white benches that I just got from a recent Target haul that I mentioned here

And even though it's not done…
I'm thrilled with how it all turned out!
What do you think?
Projects that still need to be done:
New crown mold
New art work for both sides of the french doors
Something new for the corner with the chair
Possibly paint the shelf in the dining room

I would love you're input on this one:
Leave the shelf as is/Or paint it a creamy white!

Leave me a comment I read them all and love them all!

Thanks for stopping by!
