Gallery Walls…The Gathering of Art and What not!

Sunday, February 2, 2014

So I've mentioned in previous posts about how I become obsessed with things that are home decor related and... I HAVE TO DO IT!!

Thank goodness it's only home decor related things, or I might have a real problem! But, all joking aside when something pops in my head about a specific idea I must act on it!

When planning out the empty nest, you can read about it here, and the progress post here. I always knew I wanted to do a gallery wall.

A gallery wall is a mixture of things you love that you want to showcase. Such as pictures, art, frames, mirrors, clocks and knick knacks. Anything hung together will have a visual impact. It could be a collection of one theme, or one color palette or just a randomness of things you love! It's a great way to express your personality!

There are no hard set rules in creating a gallery wall, as you can see in these few examples of ones that caught my eye.

So how do you go about creating one of these works of art?

1. Collect what you love and want to display. Use your imagination!

Tip: Keep the palette simple to make your collection feel cohesive.

2. Anchor your favorite larger pieces in the center and then work other artwork around these.

3. Step back! Take a few steps back every so often, and look at your wall from different angles.

Tip: Take a picture! I do this all the time when decorating. The camera picks up on things the eye doesn't see.

Here's a couple of great layouts to help you decide what works best for you. Also keep in mind what will be placed underneath your gallery, you want it to
feel balanced and not top heavy. You can also trace your pictures onto craft paper and tape them to the wall before making nail holes in your wall. Been there done that!!
As with anything in decorating try not rush it and get in a hurry. Just start in the middle with your larger pieces and work your way out. Adding to it until it feels
right.

Another idea is to use ledges to display your gallery like these:

In the next two photos they stayed with a theme of the same letter which I love as well.

Have I given you enough inspirations in pictures? Because honestly I love them so much that I could just keep adding more! But, I'll stop and try to calm
myself!
So I've been collecting things for my gallery wall and we're getting closer to the time when I can start creating it! So you know pictures will be soon!

If you ever have any questions I would be happy to try and answer them. I'm
not a professional decorator but, I've been around the block! (That doesn't sound right, does it?) But, there have been my share of hits and misses. And one thing I've learned is you learn from your mistakes. So please don't hesitate to contact me!

I would also love to hear if you've attempted a gallery wall and how it turned out! Remember to just have fun with it!
Until next time…
